How to Care of Laptop BatteryNow in the market there are three main types of notebook batteries: - Nickel-Cadmium - Nickel Metal Hydride - Lithium Ion Nickel-Cadmium This type of laptop battery have to be fully discharged and afte it completely recharged every 2-3 weeks. If you don not do above procedure, it will quickly lose battery life due to what is known as the "memory effect".It means your battery will only charge up to the percentage of the last charge. For example, if you discharge laptop battery to 30%, it will only charge up the remaining 70%. Do this frequently, and the 30% will become unusable, giving you an effective 70& charge even though the indicator will still show a 100% charge every time you charge battery. Nickel Metal Hydride Ni-MH batteries are alike to Ni-Cd batteries, but they are less susceptible to the memory effect. These type of batteries also have a higher capacity. Lithium Ion Li-ion are the most latest type of batteries and have no big problems as far as the "memory effect" is concerned. The problem with Li-ion batteries is that they lose their operational effectiveness if overcharged or left with a full charge. Also you should discharge these batteries if you are going to store them away.
